Dear members of Libera Club,
Just as we thought the cherry blossoms were getting into full bloom, it seems that winter has come back once again,
but I hope this finds all of you in good health.
Thanks to your graciously taking time out of your busy schedules to gather together at the end of March at Jissouji,
we were able to have a greatly enjoyable time. I’m extremely grateful to everyone.
I am also extremely grateful to Jissouji for allowing us to use their facilities each time and
for the extensive cooperation of Jissouji’s Kikuko Sakai in making preparations, as well as to all the other people who helped.
Although we were somehow able to deliver chamber music in the concert,
due to insufficient preparations and planning on our side,
after the concert I found myself spending a lot of time in the kitchen
and was not able to spend as much time talking with everyone as I would have wished,
and for that I apologize. And on top of that I am embarrassed
that I neglected to give a proper report to everyone on how your precious contributions are being put to use. Mea culpa!
Just as previously, Libera Club’s membership fees are used to subsidize tickets for students at our concerts,
and as auxiliary capital for OLC activities. “Activity capital” is, in so many words,
the supplementation of our operating deficit, the purchase of some of our sheet music, etc.
It pains me that we cannot make any substantial recompense to Libera Club members,
but I hope you will graciously accept our enthusiastic performances each time as our heartfelt “Thank you.”
At the regularly scheduled concert in February,
in addition to expressing my gratitude at having been able to continue these activities for five years now,
I mentioned with some trepidation that OLC’s prospects for the coming year and beyond still were not clear.
I am extremely grateful to the people who became new members of OLC in response to that plea.
Although we have only been active for five years so far, we have been able to realize performances of 20 programs
and released 26 CDs (including chamber music). This is no mean feat, and it simply could not have happened
if it had not been for your unflagging support. Even though our current circumstances are difficult,
we are determined to spare no effort so that somehow we might be able to continue these activities
and build up our strength, and toward that end I hope we might continue to enjoy your gracious patronage and support.
We would also be grateful if you would continue to invite your friends and colleagues to join us as well.
With the beginning of the new business year, we assume that some of you are going through various changes in your circumstances.
We pray for your continued prosperity and health in whatever circumstances you may find yourselves in this year.
We all look forward to seeing you at our next OLC performance in June, and to greeting you in the lobby!
